DD hates school

Anonymous
DD, 16, hates school. She is doing great academically but has literally zero friends, hates her teachers, and thinks it’s a complete waste of time. Some days she is just too depressed and exhausted (mentally and emotionally, not physically) to go to school. It’s been like this for years. How can I make this better for her?

have you had her talk to a therapist to determine that it is just school? Meaning: does school make her miserable, or is she miserable and also goes to school?

another option: find her a new school.

She has a pretty miserable home life, but that can’t be fixed.

Well that’s unfortunate. Why can’t home life be fixed? If home life and school life are miserable, it sounds like she gets no relief?

My advice- she needs to stick with school, keep doing well, and get the hell out of dodge. Provide all the support you can to help her.

If school and home are both miserable, would a boarding school be a better fit?

Seconding the idea to get the best education possible and then get the heck out of dodge ASAP.

But also, you're the parent and can't do anything about DD's home life?

OP, are you actually DD?

I don’t understand why, if she’s your daughter, you can’t improve her home life.

Hope she has a healthy refuge—music, books, something.
