Mac mini and a TV as a monitor?

I'm trying to figure out what to do for a downsizing relative. She's moving into an assisted-living room, so space will be at a premium. I'm wondering if using a TV as a monitor is workable -- I'd like what she has to be as close to her current iMac experience as possible (she hates the iPad a kind soul bought her -- she wants a traditional keyboard and monitor, even for email; she also hated the iPad keyboard I got her).

Any advice?

This will work, assuming a reasonably modern HD television set. I wouldn't normally recommend it, since television sets usually have higher latency and lower picture quality than computer monitors, but it will be fine for a simple use case. It would be a terrible idea for gaming or serious photo and/or video work, though.

My mini was hooked up to my 50 inch TV for about 10 years. Never had a problem. Initially, I used it with a wireless Apple keyboard and trackpad. The trackpad was a pain to use on the couch, so I switched to a cheap wireless mouse.

The sweet spot for me was installing Mobile Mouse so I could just use my phone as a keyboard and mouse.
