I'm getting paid $180k/yr to do nothing

I'm sooooooooo bored. I literally have nothing to do and am caught up on ALL my work early.

I have some middle managment role where I get to sit around and get paid. It sounds great on paper, but man it is so boring when you've got nothing to do. But hey, if they wanna pay me I ain't gonna complain.

Funny, your first two sentences do sound like your complaining

But this is what middle management is…. And always has been. I’m an individual contributor and I don’t do much, and I know my middle manager knows it because he probably doesn’t do much either. But for us, we are working from home. work ebbs and flows but, it’s at most 10 hours of work and another 10 hours of passive meetings. Probably more work from him because he has the pressure from upper mgmt.

I’d hate this. I’d feel like I’m wasting my life away.

If there's a layoff would you be on the chopping block?

DH makes 2x that and plays video games during the day. When he is not gaming, he is emailing his team from his phone, or on an occasional video call. He says that they pay him to manage, and that is what he does. Beats me.

Yeah, in a given week, I think I have about 5-8 hours of real work to do. There are meetings during the week, but I can zone 99% out for most of them since they have nothing to do with my work and I don't need to to contribute to the meetingin my role..I'm just a body in the meeting getting free coffee and snacks.

Omg same! But I’m at 189K. I have a recliner in my office. I nap a lot.

I feel that way too. It's the bullshit jobs phenomenon - lots of articles about this. You're not alone. Most tasks at work are not that demanding/meaningful.

This is what my old job was like except a lot less money but it was stressful AF because I was on the billable hour. Absolutely hated it.

This happens to me sometimes and it makes me feel bad about myself, so I start taking on extra curriculars or look for projects to help out on.

I feel bad too. But then I have a day like today where I’m up working at 4 am and realize those slow days are my compensation.
