How do you organize your email? Always afraid to delete something I will need later

Anonymous
Can people give me tips for organizing your email. I am always afraid to delete stuff (non-work) that I will need later (quotes, sports stuff, etc.) I have a crazy amount of emails.

I have about 50 "folders" and move emails to those folders if I want to save them.

Same. Archive folders. Only delete things I'm sure I'll never need.

You can set your trash to not empty so things aren’t really deleted but also aren’t cluttering up your inbox.

My son has ADHD and keeps almost everything in inbox, has a few folders. He uses for everything including his business and starts running out of space so at end of year I archive older than 12 months onto an external disk. Folders help a lot but also a good idea to have a system for archiving stuff. Like, "House 2023", maybe with subfolders for taxes, insurance, repairs, warranties, etc, then the entire folder goes to archive. I do IT stuff and not uncommon for our users to run into problems with loading Outlook because things get too full.

I just dont delete anything

I have maybe five folders for some things like travel, medical, passwords, etc.

But mostly I just leave everything in my inbox and use the search feature.

I dont really get why some people are so obsessed with having a perfect email inbox. It's not necessary

+1, I use some folders and tags (in gmail), but mostly stuff just lives in my inbox and I'm good at searching for what I need. If I run into space issues, I typically do some searching based on size and other keywords to delete stuff that's not important.

Same OP same. Gmail is the worst too adds onto the issue.

50 folders? What titles?! (Besides the obvious).

I had to come to terms with my "infinity inbox" a few years ago. I do use folders (by year, and then by type, and then by sub-type) but I don't try for putting everything in a folder. I just search on the topic when it is something I am working on and then folder things at that time. Even with this, my work inbox (which includes some forwarded personal stuff) currently has 15,849 emails, and my 2024 folder already has about 200 subfolders. I wish it didn't bother me!

At least I am not the only one

I have Gmail. I have probably a hundred folders (eg one for each trip so that adds up). The Gmail is searchable.

I never delete anything. I have like 35000 unread emails.

I never delete anything. Gmail has essentially unlimited size and is very easily searchable
