there are some schools that every other day the teachers are dressing up in 80's clothing, 100 year old people, tutus, in celebration of all of the educational milestones days and holidays that the school celebrates... I think it is fun but can any teachers speak to it? When I was a teacher many moons ago, on Friday we were allowed to wear jeans to school and the kids were the one's that dressed up. Is this the new normal or just for social media show? |
I've been teaching for 26 years, and the entire time, some teachers have participated in spirit weeks. It is usually around 25% of teachers who participate. |
We have more spirit weeks now to encourage attendance especially before breaks (winter and spring). I occasionally dress up if it's easy but I don't go out of my way to buy new clothes or accessories. |
I do get the sense that schools (both public and private) are pushing more and more social media to bolster their images. Finding the dressed up fun teachers seems like part of that. |
+1 and it’s usually K-2 |
whats this got to do with social media ? |
Why do public schools care about socials? |
Completely unprofessional and adds no value. What is the purpose? |
We did away with the part in bold years ago. It tends to negatively stereotype. |
The purpose is to get kids to show up to school. There is a huge problem with chronic absenteeism and schools have to show what they are doing to address it. My school has a committee that tracks data by grade level and by student. There are so many incentives that it's hard to keep track of all of them. |
Of all the teachers I know, only about two participate in these special dress up days, and only one of them posts on social media. |
I agree. The purpose is to pretend to be cool and to get gifts on TW. |
