High HcG Levels

Anonymous
According to my last period, I am six weeks along. I asked for a blood test and had blood taken Monday (when I was 5 weeks 6 days), and my HcG levels were more than 23K.

Meanwhile I have VERY minimal symptoms. I feel a little lazy and unmotivated, but not exhausted. And slight food aversions, but no nausea. This is my third pregnancy, and I think symptoms are the most minor I've had.

What could this mean?

Hcg levels are not crazy but I would find the complete lack of symptoms relative to other pregnancies possibly concerning. Try to get an appointment as soon as you can and to not get your hopes up or make any conclusions (negative or positive) until then. I hope it works out for you.

When my hcg levels were crazy high (the mean number for triplets!) I had a single, healthy baby girl. Apparently, women in my family just have high hcg.

Lack of symptoms is not concerning...every pregnancy is different. I'm about 4 months along and had zero symptoms in the first trimester except for horrid anxiety over the fact that I had zero symptoms.

I’m 8 weeks along with my fourth child and have zero symptoms. Like no nausea, no aversions, nothing. The only symptom are positive tests. I had an ultrasound today and the baby is totally healthy, strong heartbeat, measuring on track. I’m 36, that’s the only difference between this pregnancy and the last ones.

When my hcg levels were similarly high, I had a normal, healthy singleton pregnancy (a boy). I had mild nausea, but I'm not sure it had really kicked in by 6 weeks.

Wow that's crazy high, but HCG can be all over the place. I'm on pregnancy #9 (I don't have 9 children). From pregnancy #2 onwards I didn't have many symptoms. I would say it's lucky because losing that baby babies sucks.

I had crazy high HCG levels early on with both of my pregnancies and have 2 healthy girls. Nausea kicked in around 7 weeks both times.
High HCG can be associated with multiples. Also, I believe there's some research showing a relation between HCG levels and sex of the embryo (girls tend to be a bit higher).

OP here. Nausea kicked in, whoooo boy. Week 6 and 7 was horrible. Now week 8 and feeling better. Ultrasound tomorrow. Saying prayers for a healthy singleton.

Good luck! I had high HcG levels with my second pregnancy, close to double what they were with my first pregnancy and were worried about twins - I was AMA so scared of the extra risk of a twin pregnancy. It turned out I had a healthy singleton who happened to have a larger than usual amniotic sac, which accounted for the extra HcG. They said amniotic sac size was meaningless - I had a healthy uneventful pregnancy and baby.

High hCG is usually meaningless, but can sometimes mean multiples or a molar pregnancy. Best wishes, OP.

I had this when I was pregnant with twins (both girls).
