Don’t apply to schools where your child doesn’t feel safe.

Safety is generally fine. I hanve one alum kid and one there now. Need to be aware like any big city. It ain't UChicago, Penn, or Temple. But it ain't Evanston or Charlottesville either. More like Foggy Bottom.

Our DD got in, however, we are not considering Barnard. We may go either for Grinnell or Carleton.

Yes, mine is in. Not sure if she will attend.

Stats and Ecs, if you could share? My junior is interested.

Well, I can tell you that 34 ACT and 3.8 UW / 4.2 W didn't get in.

I’m trying to temper my daughter’s waitlist dreams and get excited about the school she has.

Good chance. They are much more holistic than most schools. My daughter got in off the Waitlist (it was Pandemic year). She is graduating this year. My other kid got in straight up but was ED.

Light up the admissions office like the mall on Xmas. Send a letter of continuing interest saying will attend if admitted. Top choice. I want to study XYZ there. I am interested in Professor Z's classes there.

Are you full pay by any chance? That will help. I am full broke now lol after paying three tuitions--two there.

In at Barnard but considering some other schools like UVA, Cornell and Tufts. Great merit aid at UVA.

UVA doesn’t do merit aid. Is your kid a Jefferson Scholar?

I have had kids at all schools other than Tufts and know Tufts well from friend's kids. Barnard is awesome to be in NYC and your graduation is with Columbia so yes you do get a Columbia degree (backdoor or whatever you want to call it). Cornell is Ivy. UVA is a top 4 state school. Tufts is excellent as well.

Congrats to her on having so many good options in this tough year, especially RD.

Here is how I would decide:

1. Location-very different. Boston area and NYC vs Ithaca-more isolated and Cville.
2. Really important-what is she interested in? Business? Probably UVA and try to do Darden? Computer Science-Cornell? International Relations-Tufts? Not sure or wants a more overall education-Barnard?
3. How is money situation? No money at other 3?
