I suggested this on the initial Kate rumor thread and everyone rolled their eyes at me

Not sure what your point is, everyone who was saying anything other than do not talk about poor Kate was a Russian troll? Well that is not true.

So the people posting about DV affairs and Kate hiding for leverage were the Russian bots? I thought those were the people accusing others of being Russian.

There are bots on all sides--they stir up naturally derived discussion to create discord.

More likely the dolts on DCUM were just parroting the Russian trolls they heard elsewhere.

No. That is not what I was implying. I was simply wondering if Russia somehow had its hand in all of the bizarre and relentless rumor pushing (not on DCUM; but Russian bots start elsewhere and then real people pick up those ideas and spread them, argue about them, etc)

I think you should assume that Russian disinformation is everywhere on all sides of inflammatory issues, including on DCUM, Reddit, and all social media sites.

"Today Russia is launching a disinformation campaign against the States, which is basically trying to get us to believe in nothing. It's trying to erode belief and credibility in anything. And it's also us against us. And this country is so split and divided that we're now using this Soviet playbook, this disinformation playbook, on ourselves."

What does Russia get out of Kate being sick or not sick? Someone tell me why this matters. I feel like Russia going to be an excuse on RHOP next.

Russia and China have obvious interest in creating racial, political, economical and religious tension in US and UK but what would they get out of Kate-William controversy? Just general discord and distrust? Creating paranoia?

We've seen a lot of efforts on DCUM to justify recent ethnic cleansing, are those foreign bots too?

What I have always said about Russian bots, and what I continue to say, is that I have never seen any evidence of "Russian bots" posting on DCUM other than spambots. On the other hand, I am sure that rumors or misinformation that Russian bots engage in propagating does show up on DCUM. However, keep in mind that the Russians don't always start the rumors. Frequently they simply amplify rumors started elsewhere.

What I do see, and what I believe is much more pernicious than Russian bots, is Americans who have completely lost their minds and are willing to believe the stupidest things imaginable. Moreover, one sign of success of the Russians is that a huge number of posters call almost everyone else a Russian troll.

Undermining trust in the establishment. People now doubt everything mainstream but will believe any whackadoodle on Twitter or TikTok.

I agree with Jeff and others that Russian troll farms are probably not aware of DCUM. Disinformation doesn't necessarily create new rumors. It takes the craziest existing posts (by bored teens and insomniacs posting at 3am, people posting in jest who don't even seriously believe what they write) and gives them more visibility by reposting, responding, liking, and any other mechanism by which they can spread more extremist points of view. The goal is to divide and inflame and foment mistrust of governmental institutions and the establishment, so that the NATO public is less inclined to support their governments' policies in general, and anti-Russian ones in particular.

They have had some success with that (also due to more direct financial ties with certain politicians and party members), when it comes to eroding support for Ukraine funding.
