Joe Lieberman has died

Age 82. Evidently, from complications from a fall.

So sad. I really liked him. Seemed like a very nice man. A true centrist. His presence will be missed.

He was a good man. And one of the last of a very different generation of democrat party thought.

So very true. May his memory be a blessing.

Such sad news. May he rest in peace.

Oh no, that is upsetting, especially a fall. We need more people like him in government.

Sad. RIP.

Yep, falls can be deadly for the elderly.

People who do not live near the elderly do not understand the risk of falls. Very high death rates for hip fractures.

Yup, this. Stairs are killers of people over the age of 70. Very difficult to ever properly recovery from a hip fracture after that age, it will drag down the rest of your bodily health.

Super important to downsize from a big house with lots of stairs to single level living by the time you are in your early 70s. I have a feeling stairs are going to prematurely take out a lot of Boomers who refuse to downsize.

I’m the PP. I actually fell and broke my hip when I was 49. After surgery, the nurses told me the death rate for elderly was extremely high. Many of them do not have enough upper body and core strength to even sit up. So they lie horizontally and very high risk of pneumonia, infections, etc. I was a competitive athlete and it great shape. But it still took me 8 months before I could walk. Was in bed for at least four months. Then another four months on a walker, then crutches. I can see it being extremely difficult for an elderly person to recover.

I don’t wish anything but peace to either of the deceased or their families, but that is a ridiculous statement.

Joe was the one honorable person in the Gore campaign who stood up for overseas military ballots coming in during the Florida recounts. “I would give the benefit of the doubt to ballots coming in from military personnel” he said to Tim Russert while the rest of his campaign staff was trying to throw out the ballots if there was anything wrong with them. It might have cost them the election, but Joe seemed to be the only one there who didn’t want to have the commander in chief winning a race caused by military ballots being rejected on technicalities. God bless you, Senator Lieberman.
