Where can I buy a good quality dress for an evening cocktail party? Prefer A-lined, V neck, 3/4 sleeve or long sleeve and long below my knees. Besides wearing a paper bag, what are some recommendations for stores and/or specific dresses? On another thread, a poster recommended this site for formalwear for someone who finds shopping difficult. It is a plus size store but they go as low as size 10.

| The dress you picked is cute pattern but wouldn’t call it cocktail. It probably wouldn’t translate well to larger size the pattern is too big and there’s too much “flounce” which will make you look larger. |

| Upstairs in the Lucky Knot in Alexandria! The woman working there picked out a very flattering cocktail dress for me in about 5 minutes, and I am definitely not skinny. Got the shoes too. (Mine is sleeveless, but there were lots of options.) |

As a busty person, I see big issues here. It’s very hard to find a belted dress like that and have it fit unless you size up considerably and then have it tailored. There’s no forgiveness on the bust measurement because you’re going to pull the belt up out of place. And the second one might be okay but as a general rule, steer clear of crew necklines. |

| I am similar and did not have much luck in Nordstrom. I found one dress that worked and it is a Donna Morgan which you can also find on Amazon. Another vote for upstairs at the Lucky Knot. |
