First trimester crying over everything

Anonymous
I’m locked in the bathroom trying not to cry (again). Everything makes me feel badly, especially perceived criticisms. As crazy as it sounds, things as innocuous as “could you turn that down?” make me feel like a horrible person. I feel so, so low and I’m wondering if I should go on anti-depressants or if this will last the whole pregnancy.

There are tricks to not crying when you feel like crying - look them up. And remind yourself this feeling is totally temporary.

If you don’t feel like harming yourself, give it a few weeks.

Hormones are a trip.

That's not normal. You should speak with your OB.

I'm 14 weeks and was like you up until a week ago. My mood has lightened significantly, probably just from the relief of entering the second trimester. If you haven't already, ask your OB for therapist/psychiatrist recommendations (depending on the severity/your feelings about medication). Please do not listen to anyone who says you are "not normal". This is more common than you think and shouldn't be stigmatized.

Talk to your OB. Are you eating regularly? I cried a lot in the first trimester. Once I cried because I was SO HUNGRY and if I could get that hungry, how could I feed a child? I was an attorney at trial at the time....
