How do you make decisions when tipping on Uber?

Anonymous

Since I havent' used Uber in a while..

Rode it yesterday, gave a 20% tip for a 30-minute ride with no traffic and I had no bags. Also didn't talk or interact with the driver. Driver did not wait for me at all. I was on time.

We always tip 20% at sitdown restaurants. Today I'm rethinking- what did I tip the Uber driver 20% for?

The Uber App options were 15%, 20% or 22%.
Really, I'm thinking 10% should be enough given the driver didn't have to do anything else but drive- which is what I'm already paying for the service.

How do you make decisions when tipping on Uber?

I don't take uber but 10-15% is plenty.

Uber pays their drivers poorly. You tip to help fill the gap. Should you have to? Many will argue no. However, I always over tip to those in service positions. I tip 50%+ most places. I won’t let corporate greed try to suppress these people.

The Uber driver rates you. I’m not sure it would easy to get picked up if you consistently tipped 10%.

They rate you before the tip.

I tip 1-2 bucks. Will tip more for a longer ride or if they do something out of the ordinary. Not going to tip 20 percent for a 10 minute ride to dinner tho.

I rarely tip at all. Maybe $2-5 if there was an extra service (like help with suitcases) or we had a great conversation.

That’s really cheap. If you took an nyc cab you’d tip 20%, no matter how short the trip. Why wouldn’t Uber be the same?

Whatever the auto tip, nothing more. Why? It's just out of the kindness of my heart. I never tip anymore except 18-20% at sit-down restaurants, or somewhere I've received exceptional service. I'm not giving into this new tip culture.

I start all tips at 20% - I can afford it, and assume those serving me can really use the extra few bucks more. If service is great, I up the tip. Not so great, bring it down. I would never tip less than 15%, on anything

I don’t tip on Uber. I only tip on sit down restaurants and at the hair salon. This tipping culture needs to stop!

I don't make any "decisions" -- I just tip 20%. Every time.

I haven't used uber in a few years but my adult kids told me to give the driver $5 so I did. I always tip 20% or more in restaurants because I don't understand making servers suffer for your arrogant, entitled attitude about tipping culture.

Read online what they get for a ride. It’s not much at all and they are providing a very helpful convenient service. I tip starting at $5 per ride and make sure I do at least 25% on a higher fare, more if it takes longer than expected. If they aren’t getting enough from tips, they won’t keep driving.
