Bess Kalb's Nobody Will Tell You This But Me

I really wanted to love this book but... did not. Anyone else read it? I also follow the writer on Instagram. She is funny at times, but there's something name-dropping and privileged that I just can't quite get over...like, it would be refreshing if she acknowledged it instead of offhandedly referencing her grandmother's countless European trips or the bag she bought her at Bendel's. She will sometimes drop in the name of a NYC private school or that her dad is a doctor. But I also think she's a very talented writer.

I had the same experience. I think she is a talented writer who knows how to write comedy well. And although I don't have anything in common with her background---e.g., my grandmother was not taking me to brunch at the Ritz or Plaza or anything---that's not usually a requisite for me to appreciate a book. But she came across as having absolutely NO awareness that her background is privileged or not universal, and I think there are ways she could have acknowledged that in a funny way. There was something very entitled to her writing but I can't quite pinpoint it.

Sounds like Eloise for grown ups?
