Hi all,
45 yr old woman here. Took fertility meds to get pregnant with my two children and DH (my only partner) had a vasectomy 5 years ago. (It included cauterization so it couldn’t grow back and he had a confirmed test that the sperm count was zero a few months later.) So I’m about 99.9% sure I’m not pregnant. (If this goes on a few more days I’ll take a pregnancy test.) I’m at day 35 of my cycle. The last time I was this late was in 2019, so not unprecedented, but also not typcial. I haven’t been sleeping well due to a hand injury, but no particular stress otherwise. No remarkable weight gain or hot flashes or mood changes etc Would you contact your doctor now? Wait a few more days? Something else? Also, I haven’t seen my gynecologist in 7 years - would you go that route or to your primary care doctor? Thanks! |
No I wouldn't call the doctor if I was 45 and missed a period; I would assume perimenopause. It makes sense to take a pregnancy test too just in case. But if I were you I would make a gyn appointment anyway to get a pap smear. |
Op here - thanks. My primary doctor does my breast exams, physical exams, and paps so I’m up to date on those. (And I do an annual mammogram) |
I would assume perimenopause and not call the doctor. I’m 44 and my periods have been getting wonky the last few years. Last summer I completely missed a period - 60 days between instead of my usual 28/30. I had a random 40 day cycle this year too. My doctor wasn’t worried, said it just happens as we get older. |
+1 I'm 48 and mostly regular, but my last cycle was 58 days. Nothing else going on. |
NP. This is literally the sentence I was going to write. |
It’s normal for your periods to get weird. |
Yep. They get weird. Take a test if you feel like it, but know what you are experiencing is totally normal.
I am in the same situation right now. |
Op here. Thanks all! I thought there’d be other symptoms too that I noticed before this but maybe not. |
I've had wonky periods for the last few years (about to turn 49) and no other symptoms at all. |
Have you been sick lately?
Google missed period and Covid. It’s a thing. It can also happen on certain medications and with other illnesses at any age. |
You’re not pregnant. This is normal at your age. |
Did you track when you ovulated ? |
Nope. Haven’t done that since I was last trying to conceive 8 years ago. (Actually for my first when I went off the pill I never naturally ovulated - eventually took clomid and immediately conceived her.) |
No, I think the wonky periods are usually the first “symptom.” The other stuff comes later. |
