Half vs full day for 3 year old

Anonymous
We’ve been accepted to two great options for my soon-to-be 3yo for the fall. One is a half day (pickup around noon) and the other is a full school day with pickup at 2:30. We have a nanny who will still be with our younger child, so pickup isn’t an issue. We prefer the full-day school for a couple of reasons (proximity to our house, we got a better vibe overall, parents RAVE about it), but the half-day is perfectly nice and people also seem to really like it, plus other parents keep telling me not to do full-day if it’s not necessary.
Thoughts? Cost is not an issue.

Does the full day school include naptime? If your child naps that's great. If not they might be bored.

Yes, it does. DC is not quite 3 and still naps (for now).

Not sure what drop off time is, but 2:30 doesn’t sound that late. Go with your gut on the program fit.

Most of the extra time will be spent sleeping. I'd do half day so he can sleep in his own bed.

I'd go with your gut. If you like one school better than the other go with the one you like. Most parents like their kid's preschool unless something really bad happened. Nobody wants to believe they sent their kid to a sub par place. The only caveat is that if the full day school spends a lot of time telling parents how great they are then that may be why parents are so convinced it is so great. This is especially likely if the full day place charges higher than market rate. Those expensive preschools need parents to really believe they need to be paying that much and giving money.

We were deciding between two preschools and chose the one with the schedule that made (a lot) more sense, despite absolutely loving the other preschool. Extreme example maybe but the one we went with (with a better schedule) ended up being temporarily closed for a ton of violations. I’m team go with your gut.
