More winds the last two years right?

Anonymous
I’ve lived in Northern Virginia for over 20 years. I never remember having massive windstorms (for lack of a better word) like we have had occurr over the last 18 months to two years. I feel like I am semi regularly getting gale warnings, and wind warning alerts on my weather apps and hearing howling winds as I worry about trees coming down.

Does anyone else feel like this is a new thing here??

When I was a kid, our front door would make a strange noise every time it was really windy. It happened like once my entire childhood. The same thing is happening today. So, no, I don't think it's a new thing, but it is kind of rare.

Nothing new.

The noise happened EVERY time it was windy, but only happened ONCE?

Lol.

I do feel more *aware* of high winds the last few years than I used to. I don't know if they are happening more frequently, or the windstorms are more intense, or if I just live in a place what is more creaky and loud during high winds than where I've lived in the past.

But yes, in the last few years I've become very aware of "wind season." When we had the first very high winds of the spring about a week and a half ago, I remember thinking, oh it's starting again. I never thought about that as being a hallmark of spring until like 2017.

No. We had a day off school for high winds in spring 2018. We had an actual derecho in 2012.

Derecho. Since then, the weather experts have hyped up any high wind possibility.

If anything, less over the last 18 months. Oir power hasn’t gone out in that time period.

I’ve lived in the DC area 22 yrs but had no wind worries for the first decade when I lived in apartments or townhomes. I was young and preoccupied with other things. I moved to the burbs w/ huge old trees in 2011 and have been more wind aware since the derecho, when a tree came through my roof.

This is what happens when we cut down all the trees

High winds are common in late winter/early spring. Tonight's winds woke me up a couple of hours ago and I'm still up. Not the first time, won't be the last.
