Hazing at U-M Frats

Anonymous
Hearing troubling stories from my senior about hazing this year for new fraternity pledges.

Kid has friends who are freshman and pledged.

Anyone can corroborate?

Yes. Apparently notorious.

Why are frats even allowed. My non-white DS told me that as a freshman, kids were allowed to join frat parties for about a week or so. After that week, anyone that was not White was specifically pulled and questioned as to why they were there, who they came with, etc. White, non-frat kids didn't have that issue.

The one non-white kid that eventually decided to pledge was crying in his room several days during the pledge process because of what he considered extra hazing (may or not have been extra; maybe all pledges cry) and racist comments.

And to think all these kids had resumes filled with 100+ hours of service work and other pretend activities that portrayed them as paragons of virtue.. sad.

think some freshman were hospitalized recently for severe alcohol poisoning, dehydration, and frostbite. They make pledges do weird stuff outside in sub-arctic temperatures while being drunk.

School tries really hard to keep it on the down low. If people knew it was really going on at the school they would never send their kids there.

I think OP is talking about Maryland, and there is a thread already. https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1190448.page

Elephant walks in winter are a thing in Ann Arbor

Definitely Michigan. Have heard this too. At least one frat being disbanded.

How is this possible at such a highly ranked school?

Is it all smoke and mirrors?

Could also be Miami per my ds. It happens everywhere every year. Why is it still news?
Anonymous
It is still news because no student should be hazed in a demeaning and even life threatening way. Ever.

And yes it happens at Michigan. Confirmed.

Nothing new, it’s just being exposed because young men are no longer willing to cover up horrible and sadistic behavior in the name of brotherhood. Just because you did it, doesn’t make it ok.

+1 for Michigan.
1. They get pledges drunk and drop them off far from campus with no phone or money and they need to find a way home.

2. Weird axe throwing shit when drunk

3. Think there’s still some naked stuff they do
