Orinda, Lafayette, Walnut Creek

What is it like living in the area? I'm aware of housing prices and schools are highly regarded. But day to day life? Is it as pleasant as it appears to be? How often do people go into San Francisco or do people tend to spend all their time in Contra Costa County?

Walnut Creek is considered really nice. A lot of people who live there commute into SF. They have a nice shopping area and good restaurants. There are a lot of law partners there.

Lafayette and Orinda, not as much.

Huh? Lafayette is much better than Walnut Creek on all counts, and prices reflect this. Walnut Creek has shopping yes but that’s it.

Lived in Orinda. It was sleepy but very easy to get into S.F. Lots of natural beauty! Prefer it to the DC area on every count except financial.

Lived in Orinda and could be in SF in 25 minutes on BART and sometimes as little as 20 minutes by car (but could take an hour in rush hour). Beautiful place to live. Personally, if I had it to do over, I might choose Lafayette because there are more restaurants, etc., but Orinda is slightly closer to Oakland and SF.
