He has a job offer in Lexington. She works remotely. Would love to live somewhere without a car. Is that possible? Other suggestions assuming we had a car. One of two bedroom apt..no kids |
You need a car in Lexington, sorry. And to get to and from Lexington.
Have you done any research on the surrounding suburbs? |
So living closer in to the city and commuting out is not doable?
|
You will end up wanting a car. |
You could, but it will be a little bit of a hassle…so it depends how good the offer is. From most neighborhoods in/near the city, you’ll have to take the subway to the end of the red line & then a bus. And that’s assuming the job is in walking distance of one of the bus stops in Lexington. So it is doable if the job is near a bus stop. Maybe 1 hr commute from Boston…will be less if you have a car & drive. |
LOL you can uber to and from daily. |
Subject to Uber price changes. It's a good short term solution, but you'll begin to resent it after a while. I recently paid 110 for what is normally a 20+ dollar trip from Chelsea to Chestnut Hill. |
What’s funny to lol? |
Thank you. If we did live in the suburbs (with a car) is there still someplace with an urban feel where we were not totally car dependent. |
lol yeah if you are made of money. I don’t imagine many working people want to pay surge pricing at commuting times for that trip 2x day. |
Burlington, Woburn, Arlington, & Waltham are probably your best options.
i like Arlington the best. Are you going to have kids/interested in school systems at some point? |
I can’t wait until lol’s day is over. Use your words. |
Thank you. Right now we are just renting and not thinking about future children. |
Watertown if it’s still affordable

Consider Arlington (East Arlington, Arlington Center, or Arlington Heights, close to Mass Ave.). |
