Dune Part 2

I realize Dune doesn't get a lot of love around here, but I am super pumped to see it. I loved Part 1 even though I had some issues with the casting at the time (mainly Zendaya being cast as Chani) but upon seeing it I thought all the casting was pretty spot on, visually it was gorgeous, and it captured the religious/mystic/spiritual piece much better than previous productions.

And the fashion at the premieres has been brilliant:

Anya Taylor Joy - in a yet to be announced role. Pretty sure she is/will be Alia.

Anyone seen part 2 yet?

No, but I have my tickets booked. Can't wait. I recently watched Dune for a second time and enjoyed it much more. This next part looks epic!

The early reviews have been amazing.

I liked the first part and am looking forward to the 2nd part as well.

I saw this interview with the director. In Part Two, he makes it clear (unlike the 80s Dune movie) that Paul Atreides is not the good guy. I'm very interested in seeing it.

I’m so excited. Big fan of the books (well…the first four?). I was so skeptical of the first film (given the horrendous other versions there have been) but they absolutely knocked this one out of the park!

Paul is absolutely not a hero, and I’m glad they’re going for that instead of trying to make it into a more traditional sci fi/fantasy escapist film.

Agreed— though not sure how much she’ll be doing in Part 2. Unless they age her up?

There will be 3, right?

I read somewhere that it will only be her voice in 2 and she'll have a bigger role in 3.

I liked the first one a lot. I wish they had kept in a little bit more about how the atreides knew they were likely walking into a trap but had to do it anyway. There is also a dinner scene in the book where the complicated politics of arrakis are laid out.

I don’t think the movie necessarily suffers for not having them, but I think it could’ve added to the richness of the film

Agreed. The dinner scene is one of the best scenes in the book. It captures so much about Arrakis culture/politics.

I recently rewatched the film to get ready for part 2 and immediately thought how I wished they included it.

I can’t wait! I loved the first one. I was skeptical about Chalamet (I like him generally, but couldn’t see him playing Paul Atreides)… but I was impressed.

I posted this in the other post about the Dune movies aligning with the books; I hope the movies at some point introduce the Guild Navigators, my favorite of Herbert’s creations. They’re so creepy and unsettling. Bring on the melange-mad vaguely humanoid prescient fishlike beings in tanks!
