LCPS - 9th grade summer PE

Anonymous
My kid was told by some kid that LCPS does not allow summer PE for rising 9th graders. Anyone with recent experience?

I’m a high school teacher and I believe this is correct- I’ve only ever heard of summer PE 10

I live in Loudoun and have heard/know of many many kids taking PE before ninth. Just ask your kids counselor. It has to be done through virtual Loudoun. It’s apparently pretty common for kids entering the Academies or just wanting to free up space for an extra elective.

My son did both PE 9 & PE 10 (with driver's ed) during the summer through Virtual Loudoun. He had to free up time in his schedule - great decision!

How involved was the virtual PE course?

Kids complain a ton about summer PE. The only people who do it have no other option schedule-wise (aka Academies.!

Online PE during the school year is free and I found it was very manageable

They apparently give you some sort of Fitbit type thing and you have to do a minimum amount of daily physical activity (like PE at school) that is tracked. Kids who don’t like physical activity don’t like it.

Sorry for the dumb question. My kids are young. Why do students want to take summer PE?

It frees up their schedules to take real courses.
