Just got confirmation from my OBs office that yes indeed I'm pregnant. "REALLY pregnant" in her words. I called her back to ask what she meant by "REALLY", considering I've had a little hunch it could be twins. She said that pregnancy is confirmed with levels of HcG above 2000. Mine was at 9000 (at 6 weeks 0 days LMP). She laughed at my question about multiples, but I can't stand waiting until my sonogram in 3 weeks. Anyone have any insight with their own HcG experience? I do realize that level doubles every 30 hours, so if your calculation is off by a day or two the HcG level expectation could be very off too. |
I just went through this! My HCG level at 4.5 weeks was 11,000! I was sure I was having multiples...but our 8 week sonnogram a few weeks ago revealed just one healthy fetus (measuring six days ahead which also helped account for the high level). High HcG levels can mean multiples, but also some women just make more HCG when pregnant. Good luck! |
The numbers can vary SO widely -- all that really matters is how it increases. |
any chance you are off on your dates (earlier ovulation than normal)? LMP only makes sense when you O around CD14.
but I've heard stories both ways - twins with low betas & singletons with high betas http://betabase.info/ congrats on the pregnancy - hope it's healthy whether it's one or two! |
Twin mom here. My HCG level was...wait for it...31,000 at 6-1/2 weeks! Shock and awed the OB until we figured out there were two in there . Good luck to you and congrats! |
My HCG at 14dpo was 100 (considered median for a singleton) and I have twins. |
I hate when nurses do that! You can't determine whether it's multiples just from an hCG level. They vary a ton. Also, technically anything over 5 means you're pregnant, it does not have to be over 2000.
If you are 6 weeks past LMP, that's about 4wks past ovulation, so 28dpo. According to the betabase, 9000 is the median value for hCG at that point. My hCG was around 25,000 at 28dpo, and I'm having a singleton. Congrats on your pregnancy! |
Mine was quite high for a singleton. Turns out, through a couple early ultrasounds which are the most accurate for dating, I was close to a week ahead.
Either way, congrats to you. |
I had severe hyperemsis and had to go to the ER to stop the vomitting before my initial OB appt. Of course, they ran the blood tests to confirm the pregnancy. My hCG numbers were very high and the doctors actually asked me if twins ran in the family. I think that my DH almost fainted. In the end though, we only had a singleton. |
My were very high and I'm having triplets.
16dpo- 610 18dpo-2455 |
my hcg is doubling every 30 hours. i had a very quick in office ultrasound done at exactly 6 weeks. i saw 1 baby and 1 sac but my doctor says she thinks there may be something behind it and its too early and too little right now, come back in a few weeks.. isn't it obvious by 6 weeks? |
mine was 9000 at 5.5 wks with a singleton |
Mine were almost the same at 16 & 18dpo (and 100% sure on the dates). I looked one betabase & they were slightly higher than the median levels for triplets. I'm having a singleton. Only one sac seen at 6w5d ultrasound and now at 36 weeks, there is definitely just one in there! So you really can't tell from betas, even very high ones, or even by comparing with someone else who has similar levels. |
Mine were 3600 at 4.5 weeks and 12,400 at 5 weeks (& dates are accurate as it was an IVF pregnancy). I'm pregnant with one. It really does vary. |
Okay, I am a little worried. I had an HCG at 14dpo I was at 686, and 15 dpo I was at 1508. Multiples in my future? Help? |
