It was 80 degrees in DC today, January 26th

Is there a five-syllable German word for the simultaneous enjoyment of warm weather and existential dread of climate change?

This was fun but it's not normal and not good. Yes, it's a freak warm day and it will be in the 40s next week, but here are the facts:

- All three regional airports broke records today
- Last year it was 80 degrees in February, and that happened a few other times in recent years too
- There was no snow last winter
- Plants and wildlife are getting confused
- We have more days of 60+ temperatures in winter than days when it actually snows
THIS IS NOT NORMAL!!!

What was the reason, was the a warm front that traveled to gulf?

Sure, but if you watch local news they also list all the other times it's been the same temp on this same date in previous years. It's not as crazy as it seems at first glance. I believe in climate change, but I also believe in history.

This was the warmest day on record in January. It has never hit 80 before.

.

Well the record we broke was 79 in like 1950. Probably thermometers are not the same now as they were then. Maybe it was actually 80 then too, or they didn't take the temperature as widely as we do now. Dulles wasn't even built until 1962. (That's where the 80 degree temperature was recorded.)

It happens. I have distinct memories of a day in late January 1989 when it was in the upper 70s in Columbus, Ohio.

It’s going to be 17 tonight. That’s 10 degrees below the average low. I don’t hear anyone screeching about that though.
