My kid is a rising 9th grader and I saw the school offer Summer PE or PE before the school, does that mean if a kid pick one of these two options, the kid can have the 3rd elective class? For Summer PE, what is it like in terms schedule and location?
Thanks in advance. |
I’ve heard from friends that summer PE is pretty intense and a lot of work. It’s one way to get it out of the way but does take a certain level of commitment. |
Assuming you may have already seen this, but here is some info about “25th hour” PE. I think summer is similar in that they have to record and monitor their physical activity.

Thanks for both! the "25 hour" PE may be a better option and I didn't know it. |
There is no bus transportation for 25th hour, so I would not do that unless you live on a DASH line to the school or are willing to drive your kid for the portions that require live attendance. |
Our senior did both - online before 9th to be able to take their music elective; 25th hour during 10th.
The summer online class was a real slog. I’m not sure what our now 8th grader will do. Summer school information is always tough to find in a timely manner - like you may not get confirmation until very late in the game. |
This is OP. My kid will take the music elective and the foreign language, and want to take one more elective other than PE. I can drive y kid as needed so maybe we will lean towards 25 hours option. |
Trying to decide between Summer PE and 25th hour, since my kid has to get PE out of the way. And have a few questions.
- With summer PE, is it all in-person or will there be some asynchronous work as well? Their attendance policy says that you can miss 2 days only, and my daughter will have to miss 4 days (if she gets into some other program). - What are the timings for 25th hour PE? How early? And would it be once or twice a week? - If you apply for 25th hr, is it guaranteed that you'll get in? It seems like with Summer PE, everyone who applies gets in. |
I hit "submit" too quickly..and the above Qs are for 9th grade PE. |
I was told by a student that her sport met some of her PE requirements. I don’t know if it has to be an ACHS sport. |
My kid is doing 25th PE as a 9th grader. You need pick it as a class and my understanding is your kid should be able to get in. Additionally, what I gathered is it is only once per every two weeks that the kid needs to go to the school earlier in the morning, then just tracking the activities. |
If they are in 25th hour they get a Fitbit. But my kid was in a sport all four years and there was no exemption of PE requirements. Should there be? Perhaps! |
Would highly recommend 25th hour over summer. Summer is a slog. |
