i have not been in 10 years and would appreciate any recommendations on fun things to do and new places to try and good area for hotel with lots of places walkable with el station (thinking of trying something other than gold coast this time, perhaps west loop). i went to college there so have done a lot of the touristy things. thanks!

My pick is always stay in Andersonville. Clark St between Bryn Mawr and Foster has the BEST cafes, coffee shops, thrift stores, vintage stores, bars, boutiques. The lake front path starts there and is much quieter than the Lakeview sections. You can take the bus straight down Clark or the redline is there. So many great neighborhoods very close by- Edgewater, Ravenswood, Lincoln Square, North Center.
