2024 Girls Lax WCAC ISL Outlook

Any thoughts on schools especially given recent recruits?

WCAC is GCs to lose. Lost only 2 starters and have 2-time POTY. SJC 2nd with losing 4 seniors but more impact players than GC. Uphill battle for PVI with the depth they lost so they're probably 3rd. Rest of the pack far back.

ISL will be interesting but SR probably still number 1 with the most depth. Visi and SSSAS will keep it close though.

Predict GC and SJC in WCAC Championship. Very early prediction, so I could be wrong. SJC has to figure out how to not get out coached and have to play 4 quarters tough. Coaching was as a significant downfall for them last year and they didn't seem to work hard all the time. Coach needs to be more agile and adjust more quickly. SJC has high caliber talent, even losing their NW and Harvard recruits. GC will be tough to beat on any day.

Agree that SR is the favorite in the ISL, but don't sleep on Potomac. SSAS probably a year away. Visi has talent, but coaching?

Coaching matchup is a massive win to GC over SJC. It’s also a big part to PVI beating them in the semi final. Depth goes to GC too. I rarely saw SJC use more than 1 sub. That could also be attributed to coaching too. GC has best frosh goalie coming in which will really help.

Visi program is a mess and the AD doesn’t seem to care.

Interesting to see who has the most ‘24 and ‘25 recruits for D1/D3 programs…. I imagine GC, SR and Saints.

SR and Saints with most depth and will be favorites again in ISL. Visi is loaded with talent and should still be competitive despite coaching problem. Potomac has an impressive ‘25 class, loaded with top D1 commits but lack depth in other grades.

Agree on SjC depth. SJC doesn’t have depth and will struggle with subbing. Very strong/D1 24s, a few decent juniors, no 25 commits, a strong sophomore. You take any of their starters off the field, especially the middies, and they are going to struggle. I heard they have some new solid recruits, including a goalie transfer. It would be good to see them compete for a championship. It wasn’t until the last 3 years that they became a part of a conversation. The program has come a long way in a short time, but they have to figure some things out. They have a new assistant coach who may be able to help the head coach make better decisions and not get out coached when playing strong teams.

SR is loaded and feels like the front runner in the ISL. They are stacked with D1 commits and strong underclassman.

No GC fan here, but not really going to be challenged inside the WCAC which as a conference I feel like has fallen off. GC has held steady which is more than enough to put them head and shoulders ahead of the rest. Don't see them having any close in conference games. They'll have trouble vs ISL teams, and they definitely struggle against Baltimore schools.

Agree but think they will be better this year than last. They started mostly freshmen and sophomores last year so they have more experience now with one of the best goalies in the 27 class coming in.

How has the WCAC “fallen off” exactly? You could argue it’s the strongest it’s ever been.

ISL has always been considered the preeminent DC area conference, and PVI beat ISL champion SR last year, SJC has defeated Visi the past two times they’ve played (and lost to SR by one), and GC is the #2 team in the entire DMV (ranked above all other ISL teams). WCAC was the only conference that sent a player to the #1 team in the country last year (NW) and has another one going next year. When has any of this ever happened in WCAC girls lax before?

GC has always been a strong program, and PVI and SJC have replaced BI and Holy Cross in the number two and three slots. The level of talent and competition has never been higher.

Just because one WCAC program (BI) is no longer a national contender doesn’t mean the current strength across the conference’s top three teams is any less impressive.

You make a good point. The WCAC isn't as deep as the ISL. Which, to be far, is also in part because the ISL is just bigger. Top teams in WCAC are just as strong as top teams in ISL. Shown with PVI winning VISAA after being dominated in WCAC final by GC.

This. The bottom half+ of the ISL A division is not very good.

I don’t see how Potomac hasn’t done better considering all of the 25’s that have committed to top schools? They should be at the top? Coaching?
