Considering a move to Hyde Park, Massachusetts

Anonymous
What is Hyde Park like? We are an African American family of 5. Housing is within a great price range fwiw.

How is the area?

DH has been wanting to relocate to the Boston area since he was in his twenties, but we are priced out of the city proper.

Hyde Park is actually in the city of Boston but much of it has a suburban feel. That being said, it can be dangerous at times. In Boston, you have to be very strategic about schools, since navigating the byzantine school assignment process is almost a full-time project. If your kids are testing well, and you are good at navigating systems they could end in a good place, but you have to advocate and do test prep with your kids no matter what your race. There is a relatively small generational AA community here. Black people tend to be immigrants from the Carribean or from Africa or are Hispanic.

Look at Milton. Good AA diversity in the schools and only 8 miles from downtown.
