I’m trying to figure out the curriculum for HIGH? Any one who has had their kids in this course tell me what is being taught in the class and how it’s structured ? . I did read a generalized statement about the course. But trying to figure out some details please.

At the open house we went to, they said it covers the same content as the world studies class but adds additional novels (one/quarter) and inquiry-based projects.

HIGH for 6th Grade focuses on ancient world - Egypt, Ancient Greece/Rome, Some China and concludes with a model UN exercise. The geographic units are overlaid with substantive content in economics and government along with instruction on historic analysis (using and evaluating the quality of sources)

The time period covered was mostly the 15th and 16th centuries, including European discovery of the Americas and some of the colonial period. They read some novels, did some research papers, and there was a National History Day project.

Yes, in our school it was the last unit of the 6th grade year. Kids picked a country and participated as a team. They learn facts about the country over time. The Model UN Theme varies from year to year. When it is time for the unit, the kids zero in on the theme, learn their country's position, and have a model UN session for a few hours where they use the rules of order, vote on resolutions, etc.

At our school, Model UN was not connected to HIGH, it was a separate elective.

Just to be clear, our HIGH had one unit as described above. There was also a separate school-wide club.

Question about Global Humanities:

6th grade model UN
7th National History Day NHD
8th ?
What do they do in Global class in 8th?

Are novels the same for Global classes at all the MCPS MS? Both our kids read the same two in 6th and 7th. Kind of surprised they didn't change the novel selections.
