Visiting UCLA as tourists?

Anonymous
My elementary aged DD wants to walk around the UCLA campus on our LA visit and is hoping to see “the pool where the divers practice” and “where the gymnasts train”.

I am sure there is zero chance of seeing indoor training facilities, but do any locals know if Spieker Aquatics center is easily viewed from a fence/gate, or is it pretty walled off? I tried to look on Instagram and Google maps, but it’s hard to tell.

Thanks for humoring this ridiculously specific question.

You could sign up for a campus tour.

UCLA daughter says that you can't access those facilities without a Bruincard. However, you could get a glimpse of the pool through the surrounding fence, and you could see the Wooden Center building where gymnasts train. The pool is a substantial uphill walk from the center of campus, however, so be prepared.

Must see spots include Royce and Powell Halls, Kerckoff Hall (used in movies from Legally Blonde to Oppenheimer, cute coffee shop inside), the sculpture garden, and the bruin bear statue (which is by the Wooden Center and the student store). The botanical garden is a nice break from the city. Enjoy!

Thank you, thank you!!! Tell UCLA daughter that my little wannabe UCLA girl will be beyond happy. Outside is good enough for us and I so appreciate the highlights and pool warning! With photos by the bear and a water bottle sticker it will go down as the best day ever. I didn’t know about the botanical garden- we make a point of visiting them wherever we go, so that’s a bonus.

I have a UCLA daughter as well and the campus is absolutely beautiful! Your little one will love it. Also visit the campus store for all things Bruin! Sculpture Garden and Botanical Garden are lovely.

Yes - Go Bruins!!
