Will be going to NYC for a long weekend this fall. Staying in Times Square. Looking for some fun activities/sights to do with our elementary aged children.

That's not the end of town for kids. You want to be north of Mid-town so you can go to the Natural History museum, the Kid museum on the W side, the park in the middle and then maybe the Met on the E side. |
If the weather is good and they like playgrounds, the playgrounds of Central Park and the playgrounds near the World Trade Center, on the Hudson River. Also, try going to drop-in activities at Chelsea Piers and eating in or around Chelsea Market: https://www.chelseapiers.com/also-at-the-piers/drop-in/ |
TBH Times Square sucks. Like others I would recommend playgrounds. Museums like AMNH or the Intrepid. Love the aquarium carousel in Battery Park City. Top of the Rock or Empire State Building. |
We went last year when my kids were 10 and 7. They loved Top of the Rock, Statue of Liberty, the playground and carousel in Battery Park, and wandering through Central Park. We also went to see the Lion King and my older one wanted to see anything connected withHamilton.
I thought they would love AMNH-I grew up in NYC suburbs and loved going there-but they weren’t into it that much. They mainly wanted to find the exhibits from Night at the Museum. I think having the Smithsonian museums made it not as big a deal. |
See Harry Potter on Broadway, part I and II |
Don’t go to Times Square.
Hang out in Central Park playgrounds. Visit all of them. Go to the zoo. Go to one gallery in the met. Go to the museum of natural history. Plan where you’re going to eat ahead of time so that you’re not stranded without food. There is so much good food in ny it’s stupid to waste calories on junk or bad stuff. |
Check out Victory theater, Central Park playgrounds, the met, the time out market by Brooklyn bridge is fun |
Also math museum |
My kids liked time square, just to gawk at it for a bit was fun. |
dinosaurs at the american natural history museum! get the planetarium tickets too

Mine always loved Times Square too. Mine liked the Circle K boat rides and most of what others said. |
Time square is centrally located. That's where we stay and we are fro lm New York. What about Statue of Liberty/ellis island/lunch in China town/ broadway show/brooklyn museum/moma. There are a million things to do. |
