Has anyone ever used Jovie in the DMV area to look for a nanny?

Has anyone ever used Jovie to look for a nanny (https://www.jovie.com/)? I believe they used to be College Nannies and Sitters? We are new to the nanny search but I like that they appear to take care of payroll and insurance etc. although I assume there is a markup in rates for that. Doesn’t seem to have a footprint on this forum (maybe due to the name change) but curious about firsthand experiences.

Absolutely be careful with their candidates. My husband’s and my company both offer bright horizon backup care, which they subcontracted to Jovie. We used twice and the people they sent over are not experienced, let alone taking care of my twins well. The last girl they sent over, I was f*ing pissed. She didn’t even bother to change my girl’s diaper!

Haha this is like the third iteration of that company. I also got assigned someone from there thru backup care, took one look and canceled.

There is a reason they keep changing their name and rebranding. Every reputable nanny agency will have the option, whether in house or a referral discount to a tax/payroll company, to help you with taxes/payroll/workers comp.

I wouldn’t use them.

Fantastic company. They are the largest in-home childcare country in the world (and the USA) with over 11,000 nannies and sitters. They pay them legally as well, which is rare. I recommend. I personally have used them for over 10 years as a benefit for the backup care program my employer offers, as well as for my private nanny needs, and have been pleased. I'm surprised by the negative comments but I guess with 11,000 sitters there are bound to be bad apples.

what do you mean, they pay them legally and it is rare? who is "They"? Usually, it is a family who pays the nanny, and not the agency. 99,9% of families who use agencies, pay legally. So, nothing particular special in that...As for back up corporate childcare, expect nothing but basics as that is what these women are paid, close to nothing.

I believe Jovie pays their sitters as legal household employees whereas most other backup care companies pat as 1099 employees.

I looked up Jovie as I was interested in applying and liked the appeal of being a legal employee but compared to another backup care company I work for (Helpr) the rates are much lower. I understand, as one pays through W2 while other 1099 but the price difference was too much for me, even with having to pay taxes at tax time for Helpr.

Be mindful of the rebranding. I recommend nannies in the city

This is very true. Any reputable agency won't have to keep rebranding.

I used them twice through my employer and will not be using that service again.
