Basketball AAU Forum

Curious if there is a basketball message board anywhere? Lacrosse has a board here and on Back of the Cage. Football has mocofootball.com. Anything for basketball either here or elsewhere? Looking for scoop on AAU teams at the middle school level.

Where are you located? Girls or boys?

Maryland and girls but looking for a forum to read about all things AAU and surprised I can’t find one.

I’ve never seen anything. Maybe start one here…

AAU is so fragmented that it makes other youth sports look coherent and organized. For other sports, someone living in Vienna or Baltimore could probably comment on the quality of MoCo clubs, but basketball has so many small clubs with so much variation and no actual leagues other than high school shoe circuits.

It's pretty simple if you're in MoCo and your daughter is at the level that you care. You're either driving into team takeover in DC, Stars in Fairfax (especially for rising 7th grade girls if yours) or Durant in PG. For high school, add Elevate in western Fairfax as an option

Twitter for now is the best place for general info. Just follow the teams and the individual coaches. You don't get gossip, but you can see what they are doing. GLP is a strong program in Montgomery Co. for girls too. DD's team played them, and they were impressive.

And good luck making any of these teams.

There are plenty of other AAU clubs!!!

There is a lot of conversation about "rich kid" sports on DCUM. Not a ton of youth basketball here. I think it probably speaks to the DCUM demos.

OP here - crazy that it doesn't exist! I guess it does speak to the demographics of DCUM. I guess this thread will have to be it.

Thanks for this! Curious your thoughts on GLP or PVT in MoCo and how they compare to these organizations? Would you say that coaching is totally class year dependent or do these organizations have consistent coaching throughout? One team may be great at 2028 but 2029 is lacking? Just curious...

I would love to keep this thread going! I played AAU basketball growing up and my DS is playing now. I'm interested in how other teams in the region are doing. Thanks for starting!

Yes - would like to know about Boys AAU programs for an 8th grader going to tryout for high school programs next year.
What are the best programs? What are the next level down from best? We have some ideas for other parents and coaches of course but would to get other feedback.

Same here. I think the problem is that clubs and teams are so small that it's harder to keep anonymous
