"Clean People" laundry detergent

Anonymous
I would like to stop buying liquid detergent. Does anyone recommend Clean People? Or other brands?

Hope it’s not packaged in plastic, otherwise it’s not clean.

I like Earth Breeze-- the detergent is in sheet form. No plastic whatsoever. And it is very portable for travel.

I am trying to really cut down on the plastic that comes into the house

Another vote for Earth Breeze.

Unfortunately, this is false. The sheets are made with polyvinyl alcohol, which is a form of plastic. Although the sheet makers claim the plastics break down and are 100% water-soluble, this isn't true under home use/municipal wastewater treatment conditions, so you're just adding microplastics to the waterways. This is true for all the sheet brands, not just Earth Breeze. I was super grumpy to learn about this because I think the sheet manufacturers are so misleading in their advertising.

Here's the research: https://www.mdpi.com/1660-4601/18/11/6027/htm

If you want to buy powder, look for one in a cardboard box, not a plastic container. I used CountrySave for many years. I got concerned about the energy costs of shipping the big heavy boxes, though, so now I use Blueland (compressed powder in tablet form) , and DirtyLabs (liquid detergent that comes in recyclable aluminum bottles). So far I think I like DirtyLabs better.

p.s. the PVA thing is also true for any dishwasher pods that are wrapped, even the powder tablets inside. I now use Blueland for dishwasher tabs.

Seventh Generation makes a nice powder in a tin can.

the product sucks and the concern for customers is worse! I have been complaining and requesting a refund for a couple of months and I've had zero response. I recently switched to Blue Water. Just used for the first time today. Is better, but even though it's China based; I'm switching back to Earth Breeze. It worked well and helped animals as well as the planet. Sorry USA, you've disappointed yet again 😞.

Tide had a good powder -scent and color free- but I think they’ve discontinued it.

How many loads a week do you do? We aim for one per person.

No experience with Clean People. But I can recommend Meloria Laundry Powder. I recently switched from Earth Breeze sheets to Meloria powder when I learned that the sheets actually contain plastic. Comes in cardboard packaging, my laundry comes out soft and clean, and a little goes a long way so it's very economical. I use the fragrance free version.

No experience with Clean People (my sister uses it, though -- I think she likes it fine). I've been using Hey Sunday laundry sheets for maybe six months, and before that I tried True Earth.

I love the format of laundry sheets. The Hey Sunday unscented do have a bit of a smell to them, but they don't leave any scent on clothes. (I can't stand clothes (or towels or sheets) that smell of perfumed detergents.)

Somewhere on their website they respond to the Blueland research on PVAs. I don't know who or what to believe.

I use Dirty Labs dishwasher powder and laundry detergent and love both. NY Times Wirecutter says laundry sheets aren't great at laundry and aren't a clear win on sustainability either:
