2023 summer camp reviews

Anonymous
Starting a thread early in the hopes that people can provide reviews and feedback on camps as their kids go through them during the summer.

My kids are in Calleva this week, and it has been very well-organized. Kids come home happy and exhausted. One of my kids is entering K in the fall and could not be happier — the Cubs program for 4-5 year olds has been fantastic. My older kid has been at Calleva for a few years and says that despite the rainy week, they have been doing lots of fun activities.

How are other camps going this summer?

I think this post will get more hits in a few weeks.

Calleva is booked solid, OP, but thanks.

So keep in mind for next year?

Happy campers doing The Handwork Studios at Sidwell Bethesda location! cooking, woodworking, and next SPA crafts! engaged counselors, easy carpool, fun choices.

Thumbs up for Kids Language Art Spanish immersion camp. DS doesn't want to leave at pick up, lol He is not that much into Spanish yet and not keen on arts and crafts at all. But zero complaints here all week. He brings awesome arts projects home and one day was so into his project, he couldn't stop for a proper lunch

Can only speak for middle school aged kids, but loving the classes at Montgomery College Youth Program for 2nd year in a row. Great, engaged instructors. My phone addicted teen said he forgot to play Clash of Clans for an entire day -- which never once happened at middle school.

Sandy Spring is not what I expected for the weekly amount paid. Not much supervision and the counselors don’t seem engaged.

My DD did the Handwork studio at Sidwell. It was one of her favorite camps of all time. And it's MUCH better than the other fabric camp in Bethesda at Creative Youth where there's a lot of time wasting and drawing rather than actual sewing.

Admin at the St Agnes location of Congressional Camp was very well-organized but the activities were lackluster. Cooking camp especially was boring. It’s an expensive camp. They need to do better than just babysitting, basically.

That’s too bad. My kids loved SS when they were little. My oldest is a CIT there this year but hasn’t started yet. I’ll remind him to stay engaged

My kid is on week two and still doesn’t know the counselor’s names. Not terribly encouraging.

We had a very lackluster experience last year at St Agnes Congo art camp. It was billed as painting and art history and my kid was tossed in a room with Crayola supplies and no structure. He’s a good artist and he didn’t produce anything nice in 2 whole weeks.

We did it to get into Congo main campus this year. My kids just finished their first session and they love it! They tell me the videos on the FB page are a good representation of their experience. Archery, horseback riding, swimming, fun special events like “messtival”. They take the bus which is super convenient. My picky eater is not complaining. Every day is the “best day ever” per my 1st and 4th graders. Worth every penny.

Calleva and Holton/Creative Summer have been great. Sandy Springs was terrible.
