Urban Foraging in Los Angeles

So where I live in Burbank there's a lot of lemons / oranges and other citrus to be found hanging over the walls and gates into back alleys and I have it on good authority that these are available to passers by if you can reach them.

When we visited Santa Monica though, there were avocados and pomegranates as well as citrus fruits.

Are there any areas closer to Burbank that I can find these, do you know? (apart from at the supermarket, obviously)

Who is this good authority?

My parents have a loquat tree in their backyard. Someone came by during the night and took every single fruit off the tree. They were looking forward to their fruit, and it was all gone. Why would someone do this?

In some places, they would shoot you for trying, OP.

Oh that's awful. That is definitely stealing. But I suspect the thief was likely hungry, if that helps. We get recycling rummages around 2 or 3am from homeless people.

Fruit thieves are often not homeless. It’s a thing with elderly women from some cultures. I’m guessing it’s fine for older women to clear fruit trees in their home country.
