I live in LA county and my daughters just turned 4 year old. Starting to look into private elementary schools and these tuition fees are crazy. As high as $40-$50k
If i decide to go private route i will be spending 15-20% of my income in tuitions with these tuition fees. is this normal ?

What percent of gross income are people spending on private schools ?

$44,000/200,000 would be 22% for us in Rhode Island.

Around 15% of gross income in a high taxation area, so a lot more after taxes. Two DCs.

About 5% of gross income.

Where in LA do you live? Are the public schools just not an option? What about parochial? (usually the cost is much lower) As an alternative could you consider moving to a neighborhood with better public schools?

DC LA private school tuition is closing in on $50k a year, % is 10% but I also think I'm in the minority (in that there are likely more people who pay a higher percentage based on their HHI). 15-20% doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility.

I live in Reseda. public school is not an option here

I bought a house in 2015 which we have renovated over last 8 years. from what i can see, we will be forced to move due to the schools

Most good private schools seem to be in the $35-$40k range

I went to see under $20k schools and they weren't quite impressive.

20% on two kids in a non-big-anything K8 in DC metro. HH $200k

I pay $35k for a great k-6 in Hollywood. When we hit upper school we’ll probably move.

Reseda? I’m going to give you a tip, if you can swing the drive or carpool: Las Virgenes Unified and Oak Park Unified School District.
