What is the best swim team in DMV area?

I have a daughter (8 yrs) who is showing some scary abilities in swimming.

For an 8 year old the best team is the one close to your house with kids they know, that keeps it fun. If your child is really that good nothing else matters yet. Save the worries about the coaching and training groups for middle school at the earliest. Maybe look for a club known for being good at teaching stroke technique. Some athletic kids can muscle through 25s with poor technique. That won’t work later.

The one that will take your child as a lot of them are full and its hard to get a spot at that age.

"scary"...? What are her times?

NCAP, ASA, RMSC, Machine, AAC, Fish, Toll, etc.

Try out season is around July…great swimmers will rise to the top in any of the decent clubs. Good luck!

Is this that same lady who said her 8 year old was a phenom getting AAAA times across the board but it turned out the kid’s club had weird made-up 8u time standards and the kid was really like a B/BB swimmer and almost 9?

My guess is this is a kid in lessons that is doing well. Usually we get the summer league future Olympians at the beginning of July.

Scary?

Why would people be scared of a child knowing how to swim?

OP -where do you live? I think that makes a big difference.

If MD - RMSC, NCAP, Toll

If Fairfax - Makos, York, Machine, Fish

If Alexandria - Marlins, NCAP

If you are by chance Woodbridge area highly recommend OCCS - they are incredible.

How would you know her abilities are “scary” if she’s not on a team?

The parent seems ‘scary’

Does she do summer swim at a local pool?

Completely agree that the best is one that is local and convenient. Look at where clubs train and figure out what will work for you. You'll do assessments in the summer and pick your club then. If she's really talented, they'll move her up into advanced groups and (I think) all these clubs have coaches at the higher levels that are good.

I’m skeptical about this too. It’s easy to look like a really good swimmer at lessons or playing on a pool. Going to a big club meet is another story.
