DC is violating federal law by overpaying landlords tens of millions of dollars

This might be the corruption case that actually brings down Bowser. This is crazy.

The voucher program is a mess any way you look at it.

Vouchers increase rent for everybody else. They don’t do anything for the supply side.

The story about the Havana is nuts.

Bowser got the Council to change the law so the one guy on the DCHP see didn’t appoint would get booted. This is the same guy who blew the whistle on the giveaway to DC landlords.

Voucher program is a mess with no recourse for the landlord. I am a small landlord and don't rent to section 8. So much is expected from the landlord where there are little consequences of the tenants getto behavior.

Someone by our house rented toma homeless mom and it was 2 yrs of hell from our block, constant loud music, weed, kds being yelled or beated, shooting, ambulance, and over 15 people living in a house.

Voucher on its own is not enough their needs to be done consequences for these families and support to learn to live in a civil manner.

The question is whether the Feds will investigate. I have my doubts that HUD Secretary Fudge is going to do anything, unless compelled to do so. Maybe the House Republicans can help. It is sad that DC needs Republican congressmen from other parts of the country to keep the city from falling into a morass of crime and corruption.

Where I I live in Fairfax County Virginia, my landlord charges voucher holders the maximum amount which is 2300.00 per month. Regular rent is nearly 900.00 a month less.

It's illegal to charge more rent to voucher households.

The program is corrupt to the core, from tenants to landlords to PHA employees.

DCHA has been independent of DC government since control board days. Yes the mayor gets to appoint some of the DCHA board members and may take some flak for this, but so should the council and others. I agree that DCHA is poorly managed. I am open to the idea of changing neighborhood payment standards. But DCHA is going to need to do something to convince non-slumlords to accept vouchers: a fund for repairing tenant-caused damages, case managers for problem tenants, something. It's not easy being a voucher landlord.
