Daniels Run vs Mosaic AAP

We are moving from a K-3 private to FCPS. My child is AAP eligible and will be starting 4th grade. We are also moving to a new location in the county, and do not have years of accumulated neighbor wisdom to rely on.

Would you mind sharing your impressions of Mosaic AAP or Daniels Run Level 4, if you had experience with either program. I appreciate it.

Is Mosiaic what we used to call Merrifield?

Mosaic is what used to be called Mosby Woods Elementary

That was in Merrifield, right? I mean, why not just call it Merrifield?

We are zoned for it and have found it a friendly school, and the principal runs a tight ship. My neighbors with older kids are happy with AAP. But it's over capacity, and I thought they were encouraging people to stay at their local schools for that reason.

My friends with kids at Daniel's Run like it there, but I don't know anybody in AAP there.

I went to Mosby Woods in the 1970’s and it was Mosby Woods. I don’t think that Mosby Woods became Merrifield but I could be wrong.

1. The school was last named Mosby Woods Elementary
2. I named it Mosaic in the post first of all for accuracy, but also to encourage recent experiences since the name change was recent.

I see one plus in the renaming. Kids will learn to spell Mosaic, unlike the poster who objected to my post. :-

I remember Mosby Woods but wasn't the greater area people are calling Mosaic Merrifield? I mean where the drive in used to be and Levitz etc or that wacky autobody shop in the middle of the parking lot at Gallows and 29.

I loved that wacker autobody shop. It’s close to there, but the school doesn’t actually pull from that specific neighborhood, iirc.

You all are thinking of the Mosaic District shopping center on 29 at Gallows. Mosaic school is about 4 miles away near Oakton HS, no relation to the shopping center. They did not name it Merrifield ES because it's not in Merrifield.

Daniel's Run is another 3 miles up the road, into Fairfax City, and sends AAP kids to Mosaic school if they want to go to an AAP center.

OP means the school, Mosaic ES (formerly known as Mosby Woods, but the name was changed because John Mosby was a Civil War commander).

She is asking about experiences at the Mosaic AAP center (formerly Mosby Woods) versus staying at Daniels Run.

My kids were at Mosby Woods pre-COVID and I was not a fan. Huge classes, two years straight in trailers, very institutional feel. I was not impressed with the leadership or with what they were learning. At that time, DR did not offer local Level IV services or we would have stayed there.

Really? Mosaic ES isn't in/near the Mosaic District? I assumed it was.

No. I don't think Mosaic was a good choice for the school's name for exactly this reason.

Fairhill Elementary serves the Mosaic District/Merrifield area.
