How would you describe the burbs along Route 2 west? |
You may want to repost this in the metro Boston forum. |
Wealthy & white |
Nobody posts there except once a month! |
This is generally true, but Acton and Lexington are wealthy and diverse. |
+1 |
Well, Waltham and Lexington seem to be a little less white, and the western part of Cambridge would be too. But in general, the immigration patterns of Mass are different from around here because a lot of the immigrants to Mass were connected to the fishing/whaling industry. So around Boston, you're not going to find many Mexican immigrants, but there's Portuguese & Cape Verdean clusters that you don't find in many other parts of the US. A fair amount of Asian immigrants too, my guess because of the academic, pharma & tech industries.
You'll see a lot of historic plaques in that area. The deCordova is really nice. Very educated, wealthy population. Big houses, little New England-style town centers. |
Good schools, decent shopping, mostly white, high home prices and taxes, loads of traffic. In some ways similar to driving out from the beltway — 45 minute drive from the city still commands city prices for real estate. |
What info are you looking for? I live in Lexington. Amazing community - lots of ways of getting involved. Houses are crazy expensive. Public schools have amazing teachers but lots of kids. Diverse in terms of ethnicities but not wealth. Active programs and communities for seniors aging in place. High school (old and overcrowded) likely to be built in 2030 so if you have kids graduating 2026-2030 steer clear!

Winchester is really nice. Beautiful, classic New England town. High school was just rebuilt. |
I would move to Concord if I could get a job up there. |
Less ignorant, though. |
Wayland and Weston have top public schools and are much closer to Cambridge/Boston than the other towns. Wayland is either part of Route 2 or just over the line. |
Arlington is amazing too |
Wellesley. Weston. Concord. Carlisle. Lexington. They are all beautiful idyllic New England suburbs. Yes - very wealthy and white - Lexington probably most diverse. Public schools are excellent.
Newton and Belmont are closer to Boston and a little more diverse but also mostly wealthy. Also excellent schools. Winchester is wealthy and white with good schools. More north than west. |
