Philadelphia- moving from DC?

Anonymous
What do you think about moving to Philadelphia? Philadelphia has a nice suburb. Mainline in particular has excellent public and private schools. Real estate is more affordable. Easy access to Manhattan and DC

Only one nice suburb?

I am not in DC so can't compare, but I do not like Philadelphia at all. I have driven through, gone to hospitals there, gone to events there....I wouldn't touch the area with a ten foot pole.

What do you like to do?

What is your profession?

What is your social circle like?

Useful post to go with an interesting OP.

We've been there for field trips. I like the city. It has a lot going for it, including proximity to NYC without the cost. I would consider it.

Philly is way more rough and dirty than dc by a massive magnitude

The city has a lot of potential but the 2020s will be hard on philly

I wouldn’t go unless you were an introvert that just worked at sig as a trader and went home and stayed in your mainline town

The city itself is rough rough rough

There are plenty of areas in the city that are fine.

Aren’t there lots of young people in the city because of universities? You can also live in South Jersey and commute

If you want a useful thread you should give more info and at least answer all questions.

Are you social? Philly people can be pretty insular and mainly hang with people they grew up with.

We left DC for a Philly suburb and couldn’t be happier. The suburbs are lovely and offer access to everything you need. Medical care here is top notch with Penn Medicine and CHOP.
