Trinity Christian School

Anyone send their kids there? Impressions? Pros and cons? (Note: Trinity Christian School in Fairfax *not* Trinity School at Meadow View in Falls Church).

My neighbors send their kids there & they are very right-wing, anti gay, etc. They do not believe in evolution and believe women should be submissive to men. I know this from their social media posts. They don’t hide or sugar coat these beliefs. The school is very conservative, borderline Christian fundamentalists. I have heard the school is supposed to be pretty strong academically but the hateful beliefs disgust me.

My kid applied for 8th grade with good grades and high test scores but did not get in. We are centrist politically and fairly religious - but probably not enough to really fit with Trinity. My impressions of the school were very positive even though I disagree with their position on abortion and gay marriage. It seems like an excellent school academically - very rigorous and with a strong science program (yes, they teach real science). Teachers and administrators seem dedicated. I was especially impressed with Dr. Vander Poel and the English teacher. The admissions staff were extremely nice.

Please note that there is a Bible quiz during the prospective student interview. Brush up on your knowledge!

It's a wonderful school. Academically it's very rigorous and for one of my children, who struggles with a learning disability, it was not the right fit; but both of my other two children have thrived there and we love the school. It's a sweet-spot in terms of the size, and the teachers really are amazing.

When you say things like this, people will doubt everything in your post. How could such a school keep its accreditation? My DCs do not go to this school, but a neighbor did, and they are not Creationists.

I teach in public, and have had a few girls over the years who transferred from there due to unchecked bullying and mean girl behavior. I’ve never had any male students transfer over that I’m aware of. I’d be hesitant to send my daughter.

The people I know who send their kids there are very socially conservative. Like the wives don’t work because the husbands think that their place is in the home, and the wives are on board with it. From the way they talk the wife sound very subservient to their husbands. They’re also extremely pro life. The school does seem to have strong academics but I imagine it’s a bit of a bubble and that kids are in for a bit of a shock when they get to college and are exposed to different viewpoints.

Yes, I am the PP who mentioned the Christian conservative neighbors that attend the school. This is exactly correct. The mom has posted many times on Instagram about a woman's place being in the home and posts very conservative memes/images. She has also mentioned that she wants her daughter to go to a Christian college to find a husband, not for any academics. It's very bizarre because the daughter seems strong academically and I've seen posts about her winning awards in school. It seems like a double standard. I doubt they read here but I don't want to add any more personal details in case they happen upon this post.

I have a similar impression of TCS and their graduates go on to some pretty good colleges too. https://www.tcsfairfax.org/academics/college-counseling/college-acceptances

We looked at it but decided on a school closer to home.

It's the perfect fit for families trying to raise their children with conservative Christian values. It's an oasis from the cultural pollution out there. I have Facebook friends whose grand children are students there and I see a lot of posts. If that's what you're looking for, you will have found your sanctuary.

PP is talking about the neighbors, not the school.

FWIW, we also know people with a daughter there (nice family) and yes, they are socially conservative, but both parents WOH and I've seen no indication that they expect anything less for their kid.

Plan for conservative college choices
Trinity won't be respected by all
