Well, I parent. So I regulate what my child listens to and don't scream at internet strangers for their paragraph of opinions. My daughter's restriction from explicit lyrics doesn't have anything to do with my point. The argument that lyrics of a performer mean they aren't a role model? I'm over it. Most entertainers have something questionable in their performance, at some point or another. One painting of an artist doesn't define their work. One song doesn't define an artist. Beyonce has designed clothes, acted, and performed. She is hood, but don't call her skanky when she is no more risque than Madonna was in her day. I watch Denzel Washington, and I don't let my child watch American Gangster. And would have no issue with him being at the WH. I love Halle Berry, and remember her having sex with Billy Bob Thornton in Monster's Ball and playing a crack head in Jungle Fever with Wesley Snipes. No issue with her being a role model. By the way, I wouldn't let my child watch that either. You are throwing all of her good out because of a few controversial lyrics - which - again - are about her husband. Not popping molly, which is something that MIley Cyrus actually did come out and sing about - to her teen disney followers. Give me a break. |
Ho hum is how I feel about her. She has a great PR machine going though. |
Exactly. Beyonce or Melania? BeyGood or BeBest? LOL! |
I'm guessing you love the First Lady and Beyonce, if you're being honest. Two women who own their sexuality and make choices to use it however they wish. |
Wow, do you have issues! I'm thinking it's you who needs to post elsewhere. Sorry you're taking it so personally that some of us don't like her or her music. You don't have to be a prude to dislike graphic lyrics, moron. |
Well that's some major whataboutism in a thread that's only about Beyoncé. FWIW, Madonna was also skanky. Miley Cyrus as well. Not sure why you feel the need to bring those two into this discussion... oh wait, I'm sensing this has something to do with race, right? Get over yourself. We can dislike anyone we want, for whatever reasons we choose and we certainly don't have to justify those reasons to you or have you approve. As for your daughter's "restriction from explicit lyrics," puh-leeze. Your daughter is hearing all of those lyrics, whenever she wants, with or without your permission. It's funny and quaint that you think she's not. So when you tell your daughter what a "good role model" Beyoncé is, you're also telling her how great you think those lyrics are. Congratulations. |
Not PP, but a strong point was made. As I try, I cannot think of a main stream pop artist, that is well known, that has ONLY produced lyrics that are NOT offensive. Near everyone alludes to sex. On TV, in music, online. Selena Gomez, John Mayer, Bruno Mars, Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran, Drake, Charlie Puth - all of them have a song that alludes to sex. |
Literally no one cares |
Yes. "Alludes" being the operative word. Not graphically describing giving a blow job and the resulting mess all over your dress. |
Exxxxactly. |
She is a great entertainer, but role model? Child please. She's too empty-headed and crass for that. My young AA daughter has heard of her, but I'll be damned if she's ever going to look up to someone like her for #goals. |
Country stuff just a gimmick. She used to be talented
Now she's just embarrassing. I feel sorry for her daughter |
Oh god I can't think of anything more repulsive than blowing a man as ugly as Jay-Z and having him shit it all over me. |
I don’t like Beyonce, but I don’t trust people who have a special dislike of her. People who dislike Beyonce while failing to notice all the other non-Black and male artists whose music is vapid and vulgar are telling on themselves. We see you. You’re not slick.
I’ve never been captivated by Beyonce. I like many of her ballads like “Halo,” “If I Was A Boy” and “XO,” and I like a good deal of her Destiny’s Child hits. I dislike most of her more upbeat music because the lyrics are vulgar and terrible, and she also expresses some regressive views of women’s role in regards to men to men. As far as her persona goes, something about her strikes me as inauthentic and utterly boring. However, I feel the same way about Taylor Swift and her string of PR relationships, plus her becoming vocal on pressure to be thin only when she involuntarily gained weight with age and needed to exploit the body positivity movement. |
