Atheists are so pleasant and reasonable. That is all. |
“Ali contends that atheism is nihilistic and absurdist. Moreover, it has been tried and found wanting: we are reaping the results of discarding Christianity, and they are seriously bad. Secularists promised us one thing; we have gotten quite another.“ it’s such a funny thing: one day, Christian nationalism is ruining, destroying America, political power out of control, the next Christianity has lost power at the ballot box and accepting “scraps” of Richard Dawkins publicly reaffirming his choice to live in a Christian society. None of the Four Horsedorks live in a country in which state atheism is mandated. Because society run by atheists is inferior (that’s putting it mildly) to societies run by atheists. Christianity is so awful! Except hey I think their countries and societies and customs are rules and laws are the best on earth. |
Dawkins sure is trying to sell, $199 plus taxes and fees to purchase a bit of his time. |
This is really true, especially the Spanish who were motivated to bring God to the new world (and of course take their gold). But to be fair, Christianity did moderate a bit after the Enlightenment. |
Which is it? Is he about to convert or is he horrible? The point is PP and OP are dishonest and misrepresented the article referenced. Shameful. |
The idea separation of church and state originated from Christianity. Until Christ came along, all states governed by rulers who imposed their religion/gods. Only when Christians obtained power was the concept of separation of church and state embraced. |
Why are you so obsessed with this random, British guy who is an atheist? |
Exactly. |
Neither atheists nor Christians are covering themselves with glory here. |
“Shameful” atheist poster is here misrepresenting pp’s irony about an atheist poster’s nasty post. Another day on the Religion forum. |
The Greeks and Romans were all about empire, conquest, and war. Alexander the Great, anyone? The Israelites genocided the Canaanites and that other, smaller group I’m forgetting (name begins with M?) and tbh the genocide continues today. The Babylonians. The Mughals conquered much of India, the Muslims swept across North Africa into Spain, and ISIS still dreams of a caliphate today, all to wipe out existing cultures and kill resisters. |
What was nasty about the post? It simply quoted Dawkins from the article the OP linked. Then noted that PP purposefully and dishonestly mis-represented what the article said. What, exactly, was “nasty”? Is that just more dishonesty and misrepresentation? |
Calling pp a liar? Are you claiming Dawkins didn't say that Christianity was his choice for a society to live in? |
+1 It is concerning how poorly educated people are. Many if not most pre-classical societies were characterized by constant warfare with winner-take-all outcomes resulting in the killing and enslavement of entire cultures. And yet people like the earlier poster envision peaceful agrarian societies living in peace and harmony. Absolutely not the case. |
