Birthday Party Ideas for 9 Year Old Boy

Anonymous
We are having difficulty coming up with a party idea for this year's birthday, which is in June. We have done the following recently: gymnastics, soccer. Things that we don't want to do: bowling, Dave & Buster's, Chucky Cheese. In the past we have invited the whole class but this year I'm thinking of making it smaller -- maybe 4-5 close friends -- rather than a big party, but am open to any ideas. My son is very sporty and likes arts & crafts and nature/the outdoors. He is not into video games. I thought of a pool party but we would have to have a backup if the weather is bad. Has anyone done a cooking party? Thanks.

The indoor splash pool (like a small water park) at Rollingcrest Chillum is a fun choice!

if they like music, Bach to Rock has parties where the kids get to make a cd in their studio. Sounds fun to me!

We did a Lego party for my son's 8th birthday this past year. Great party and kids got to keep bucket of Legos as their favor (we had 10 kids total, including my own kids). Used brickbirthday.com to do it. Owner was fantastic and it wasn't unreasonable money-wise.

I looked up brickbirthday.com and couldn't find it online. Anyone know if they have gone out of business? TIA!

I second laser tag. It is 'sporty' and very popular with the 9-yr olds in my son's class. My son will be having a laser tag party there next month. This will be our third party there this year!

PP here: For laser tag, check out

They have places in MD and VA.

Maybe there are other places you can find through google. I thought there was one in Silver Spring, but we haven't gone there.

You can do laser tag in your backyard with this guy. My son has been to 2 parties that used him and he's had a blast each time.
