Dentist Recommendation

Looking for a dentist that will allow you to go back with your child. I have called a few dentists but none will let you go back with your child. My 3 year old child has some sensory issues and it will be much smoother if I can be back there with him. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

All of our dentists have let us go back with our children -- it has never been an issue. Where do you live?

We're in Arlington but willing to travel anywhere.

While likely not convenient, we go to Amy Light in Potomac. (River @ Falls).
I always go back with my 7 year old--sensory issues, pdd-nos.
Recently had 6 cavities filled (mom's soft teeth) and all very smooth.

Try Dr. Mohammedi in Mclean. We stopped going there because it was not covered by our insurance, but we ALWAYS went back with our kids.

Dr. Dana Greenwalk in Chevy Chase (Wisconsin by Mazza Gallerie) has been wonderful with my kids with SPD.

I like Dr. Sarah Ganjavi in Vienna. She has a new special needs friendly dental assistant who is incredible. My child had a blast there.

Dana Greenwald in NW DC was great. I let her know ahead of time about my son's ASD and she was ready. All of the staff was kind, patient and easy going. When we went back 6 mos later I forgot to remind her of the ASD, but she remembered and everything went very smoothly.

On an aside, I would not consider a dentist or doctor who requires you to leave your child alone with them. Given what happened in Lewes, DE, it shouldn't even be a consideration - special needs or not.

I strongly agree. There's no reason why you shouldn't be able to go back with your kids.

Dr. Michael Gazori, he's floortime trained to work with all kinds of special needs children, particularly autistic and those that have sensory processing issues. But he's all the way out in Lansdowne, VA. I know he originally worked at Dr. Light's (potomac) office.

We LOVE Dr. Niloo in Oakton.

my son had his first visit to the dentist yesterday, and it went great thanks to Jennifer and Dr. Sarah Ganjavi in Vienna. I highly recommend them. he is within the AS and has a hard time at dr's office, but by the end of the visit, he told Dr. G bye and see you soon. She is gentle, quick and her assistant is equally good.

We use Dr. Robert Morgenstein in White Flint Mall in N. Bethesda for our DC. We always see a lot of special needs kids and adults in his practice. Caretakers accompany the patient everywhere.

Watch out for those dentists that charge an 'extra fee' to employ behavioral strategies to calm your child. In my opinion, that should have been part of their training and should come with the job of being a kids dentist.
