Pretty colorful things I can plant now

Anonymous
I was pregnant during the winter and now have a newborn and I've neglected my yard pretty badly. Normally I would have planted bulbs last year, but I didn't get around to doing it. What are some pretty and colorful annuals I can plant now just to get me through until I can take better care of things later this year? I'm going to flower mart tomorrow, not sure if that's a good place to get stuff because I've never been before. Thanks!

Why not plant perennials? Lower maintenance.

Wait a little longer for annuals. Then you can plant lantana in sun and impatiens in shade. Easy peasy.

I would argue the opposite on maintenance.

New Poster but...
OP said she meant to plant bulbs which are also perennials? So it seems like she wants something to come up automatically.
If you have time to plant annuals, then you have time to plant perennials. Then you don't have to wait until fall to take care of things and plant bulbs. a lot of perennials are starting to bloom so same thing?

I chose perennials because I want my garden to get better and better each year instead of choosing something flashy and temporary. Annuals are for pots

We do a mix of annuals and perennials. Annuals tend to be continuously blooming so you have color all through the summer. It's nice to have some.

If you have shade get some New Guinea impatiens. If you have a lot of sun you can get lots of different flowers.

In sun, perennials are a good option.
For shade, dianthus or impatiens along with hostas are nice.

For annuals, Merrifield or American Plant or whatever’s closest. Begonias, petunias, columbine, etc. I really like the Rieger begonias.
They’ll be colorful throughout the season and you can enjoy them until you have more time for long term gardening.
