NYC Hotel - The Standard, Moxy East Village or Hyatt Union Square

Anonymous
Looking at hotels (preferably close-ish to NYU) to visit with a teen this summer. Most important thing is that it's clean! Also partial to comfy beds, quiet from street noise (as much as you can in NYC) for sleeping, nice clean updated bathrooms.

Currently looking at Moxy East Village, The Standard, and Hyatt Union Square. Moxy East Village is least expensive and Hyatt Union Square isn't much more, but not overly concerned about cost to find the right place.

Also open to suggestions - this is just what I've come up with in my initial research.

I'd consider Hyatt Centric Wall St. Easy to shoot up either side of Manhattan and walk to the ferry.

The Marlton is lovely but small rooms. I used to live on that block and it’s a fantastic location.

I did check out the Marlton and I think the rooms would unfortunately be too small if it ends up we are two adults and a teen traveling (and not just 1 adult and teen)

Hyatt Union Square is very lux and the best location for a parent visiting NYU. Great hotel.

Unfortunately, both the Moxy and The Standard cater to nightlife crowds. The Standard has an awesome nightclub on the roof, but I'm guessing you're not visiting for that purpose lol

Moxy and Standard will both require decent walks to get to the heart of NYU. Which dorm are they in?

Apparently not recently LOL

The Hyatt is not Luxury by any means.

Elevators there no thanks.

I think most likely will be Weinstein

Check out the Moxy downtown too. They have a fun lounge with free games and a mini basketball court. They have a DJ on the weekends. Nice for kids to have fun while mom and dad have a drink at the bar.

I stayed at the Union Square Hyatt in January and will stay there again. The bed was very comfortable, rooms clean, and we found it very quiet. It's not super luxe but found it well appointed. Our room had a big terrace that made the room feel larger and provided a nice buffer from the street. The Standard is looking pretty past it's prime these days. Haven't stayed at the Moxy East Village but stayed at one down by Wall Street and it was so incredibly tiny I checked out after a night.

We really like the Innside by Melia on 27th between 6th and 7th. Easy access to the train station, if that’s how you’re traveling, but still well clear of midtown. Easy walk to Chelsea and the Village. The room with two doubles is pretty roomy by NY standards. We’ve stayed there multiple times with our teenagers and always had good experiences.

Good dining hall and awesome location to get to class quickly, but those rooms....oooof. Cinder block walls. All the charm of a studious prison cell.
